Attention: Modification of Belgian law

As long as the total sales price (including VAT) of a vehicle is less than 3000 euros, it can be paid fully in cash.
However, if the total sales price of the vehicle is 3000 euros or higher, the vehicle must be paid by other means (i.e. electronic payment cards, wire transfer, cashier check, etc.).
The law provides for one exception: even if the total sales price is 3000 euros or more, an advance of up to 10%  in cash may be paid, provided that the advance payment itself does not exceed the threshold of 3000 euros.
Penalties: if you carry out a cash payment in excess of 3000 euros, you can incur a penalty of between 250 and 225,000 euros.
